CALL FOR ART
The Millbrook Library Board is excited to call for entries for our very first “SALON HANG!”
We would like to invite all community members to submit work to the Millbrook Arts Project and have their work displayed on the walls of our newly renovated exhibition space. All ages and skill levels are welcome!
WHAT IS A “SALON HANG?”
During the late 17th century, salons rose to popularity as a means for cultural patrons to gather and view art. In early salons, artworks were hung in a manner reflecting the artists’ rank, whereby paintings deemed most important were displayed at eye level (or “on the line”) and those by emerging artists were “skied” (or hung higher up). Against the traditional hierarchies of gender, media, materials, and professional status undergirding traditional salon installations, the Millbrook Library’s Salon Hang strives for a community-based spirit of inclusion, uniting the professional/amateur, old/young, and artists working in diverse media and materials, from painting to fiber art.
Our Salon Hang will be a joyful celebration of local artists and The Millbrook Library!
Your art will hang on the walls of the library, alongside other community members, from November 7th to November 29th, 2025
